Season 2 of the Showtime teen drama Yellowjackets finds the cast in dire straits, fighting for survival with a frosty wilderness backdropping their descent into mental and physical decline. For SXSW 2023, we invited guests to “Camp Yellowjackets,” a campy experience that draws on the show’s themes of dark humor and survivalism.

With replica set builds and exploration-themed programming, guests were transported to the world of Yellowjackets, cementing the experience as a clear standout amidst the competitive SXSW market.

Guests explored the camp at their own pace. They tasted mushroom tea at a foraging station, threw an axe at target practice, got their camp portrait taken, and explored the many details and easter eggs in the cabin. Food & beverages were served by butchers in “bloody” aprons, creating additional in-world storytelling that nod to the dark humor of the show.

A run club coach became a father figure to prisoners.  An LA model lost both legs but found a new way to live.  A soccer player turned a stereotype into unstoppable ambition. Three short films highlighted that running is not just for elite athletes but can be a tool to help people overcome personal and perceived challenges in life.

Lauren Wasser nearly died from TSS and through it found a new way to live. The short film shows how running has helped this model, activist, and athlete through monumental physical, mental, and emotional transformation. Seven years on, she’s gone from self-confessed “it girl” to a woman redefining beauty, speaking out about TSS, and training to run the NYC Marathon. This was Lauren Wasser’s induction into the adidas brand as an official ambassador for adidas running. 

This film tells the story of Frank Ruona who has been coaching inmates to run marathons for over 14 years. Frank is a seasoned marathon runner and run club coach that has discovered his efforts with coaching inmates has had the power to transform the lives of those prisoners even from behind bars.

Professional soccer player Lindsey Horan shares her transformative story of perseverance. Overcoming stereotypes, naysayers and negativity with determination and hard work.

After two impactful teasers, the world of Oakley’s Future Genesis officially begins here. Launched with a :90 short film produced in collaboration with animation studio PSYOP, “Chapter 1” provides an origin story for Oakley’s new brand heroine, Maxine Fearlight. Audiences are dropped in the middle of a harsh environment and witness the influences and tension that Maxine’s journey will build upon into the infinite future.

In addition to the jaw-dropping film, a variety of additional visual materials were created from the 3D assets. From blockbuster worthy film posters, to the first ever detailed looks at concept and future product, there was enough world building and easter-eggs to keep the Oakley fan community intrigued and speculating about what comes next.

While all characters and environments received significantly updated design and apparel details, special attention was paid to the newly introduced character of Sasha, Maxine’s mother. Apparel and footwear was custom designed for the character to work seamlessly with the “butterfly” concept glasses that feature continuously color-shifting lenses.

In an expansion of Future Genesis from the screen to the page, KAMP teamed up with world renowned publisher Dark Horse Comics to translate "Chapter 1" into traditional comic form. The partnership allows us to greatly extend the storytelling in future full-length issues, reaching new audiences and exploring the world of Future Genesis through narrative and world-building.
